For a number of years my vocation has been in the health and nutrition industry, while, for an even longer time, my primary recreation has been flying--of one kind or another. I guess it was only a matter of time before the two merged. As a recreational pilot, I have been the lucky recipient of flying advice by numerous flying professionals over the years, and I never cease to be amazed at the lessons and insights that can be gained by listening to a seasoned expert. I hope with the launch of this small endeavor I will be able to share my own knowledge in my area of expertise with the aviation community: nutrition. For years I talked about launching an all-in-one nutritional supplement product that would go way beyond a basic multi-vitamin and mineral, and include the main nutrients that consumers seek out at health-food stores. What I envisioned was a convenient and practical supplement... something even the busiest aviator could conveniently add to his or her busy regimen. Quality supplementing without having to mix cumbersone and bulky powdered drinks, taking multiple bottles of pills, or consuming 10 "health" bars a day. A handy product that could simply be tossed into flight gear and be easily stowed. Unfortunately, creating my own product was constantly put on the back burner while I assisted with the creation and promoting of a number of food-based nutritional supplements for other companies. Some of these products were similar to what I envisioned offering to the flying community, so the research and goundwork was laid. Then on July 4, 2007 my motivation changed. I was seriously injured in an accident in my ELSA and my perspective on things changed dramatically. I came to see first-hand that health is everything, especially for those of us who love to fly. Without a doubt, my life was saved by the professionalism of the emergency personnel who pulled me out of the ravine I crash-landed in, and the surgical team who patched my spine back together. However, being in good health prior to my accident, and practicing good health habits following my hospital stay--including supplementing the most essential nutrients--were also critical components of my overall recovery.
